The Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court on Friday (01 Dec.) ordered former Sri Lankan cricketer Sachithra Senanayake to assist in the ongoing investigations concerning his match-fixing allegations.
Accordingly, Senanayake was ordered to assist the government analyst when requested by the police to do so.
The order was issued when a complaint filed by the Special Investigations Unit of the Sports Ministry was taken up in court today.
This move may help him to implicate others in match-fixing and leniently get away from chargers against him.
Sachithra Senanayake, former Sri Lankan off-spinner, was arrested in September 2023 on charges related to alleged attempts to fix matches in the 2020 Lanka Premier League. The charges against Senanayake are based on allegations that he approached two players participating in the LPL and attempted to entice them to fix matches. Senanayake has denied the charges and is currently out on bail
