By Justice Minister Wijedasa Rajapaksha said that he has ordered the secretary of the Justice Ministry Nihal Ranasingha not to go ahead with the gazette notification of the proposed 22nd amendment of the constitution until the completion of the presidential election.
This certainly a spanner in the wheel for Ranil Wickramasingha who is keen to present to the 22 nd constitutional amendment to Parliament for debate.
Minister Wijedasa said that He put a halt in publishing the gazette notification on the constitutional amendment to avoid needless confusion.
Mean while a number of parliamentarians have been speaking of the possibility of dissolving parliament early , if they don’t support the proposed constitutional amendment.
It is widely speculated that the UNP and Ranil Wickramasingaha are conducting a covert operation to manipulate the electoral process. The election commission has been criticised in the media for not announcing the date of the Presidential Election on the first possibale opportunity in order to reduce tension prevailing around the Presidential election.
