A special luxury intercity express train will leave Fort Railway Station at 6.30 am every weekend and will reach Kandy at 9.18 am. On the same day, the train will leave Kandy at 4.50 pm and reach Fort at 7.40 pm.
The train consists of four first-class air-conditioned compartments with 44 seats and three second-class compartments with the same number of seats.
The first class fare will be Rs. 2,000 and a second class will be Rs. 1,500 – the fares mentioned above are for a one-way journey to Kandy/Fort, the Minister said.
On its journey to Kandy, the train will stop at Gampaha (7.04 am), Veyangoda (7.15 am), Peradeniya (9.03 am), Sarasavi Uyana (9.12 am) before reaching its destination in Kandy (9.18 am). The total journey consumes two hours and 48 minutes.
