Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman US Senator Bob Menendez, along with Senators Dick Durbin, Patrick Leahy, and Cory Booker, will move a Senate resolution at the 77th United Nations General Assembly convenes in New York this week.
This resolution will put Sri Lanka in the spotlight at a moment when poor governance of the country Is been widely discussed.
The senators will be calling for a comprehensive international approach to address Sri Lanka’s current political and economic crisis.
The resolution will put pressure on President Ranil Wickramasinha to work with others to put things correctly in the areas of governance and human rights.
A Sri Lanka Accountability Project has been proposed by the resolution and analysts say that the initiative put pressure to speed up the implementation of the United National Human Rights Council proposals.
