By Ranil Wickremesinghe’s presidential election campaign is facing a check mate with Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) pollinations who had signalled are ready to join the campaign have been backing out.
The possible SJB crossovers have indicated that do not want to be in coalition with the ruling Sri Lanka Podujna Peramuna (SLPP).
Meanwhile President Wickremesinghe is yet to announce his candidacy for the presidential poll and this has made his close supporters uneasy on the other hand the Rajapasha’s are determined to patch up differences and get Ranil Wickramasnha to contest as a common candidate while they would field their own presidential candidate .
Talks to patch up differences are still continuing but Sajith Premadasa is no mood for a compromise for a situvaytion where Ranil Wickramsingha will be in the driving seat ,how ever according to the mediators the reverse is a possibility. Ranil Wickramsingha may be willing to get in to the SJB band wagon if it is definitely heading towreds victory.
The SLPP has been distaceing itself from Wickremesinghe’s privatization moves in public but in reality they will want him to contest and back him covertly because many of the SLPP higher-ups will not want a NPP led government said a political analyst.
The Floating Vote.
A number of opinion polls and surveys have been conducted within the last few months and all results support a single finding IE the floating votes and minority votes will be the deciding factors and these votes wil gravitate towards Sajith or AKD .
Accoding to most surveys SJB leader Sajith Premadasa has a slight edge over Anura Kumara Dissanayaka
A change in this situation could happen as campaigning intensifies.
