Basil Rajapaksa, is losing his power base, Gota is silent and Namal seems to be taking over.
That’s the latest gossip about the Rajapaksha clan.
The parliamentary group that supports Basil seems to have shrunk to about 25 and as many are disgruntled that they have received ministerial posts as promised are slowly moving away in other directions.
Namal Rajapaksha has been firing salvos at the JVP and accusing them of politically motivated violence and playing a prominent role in organizing a comeback in the shadow of Mahinda Rajapaksha.
Minister Prasanna Ranatunga told a government parliamentary group meeting that Basil Rajapaksa had informed him (on the telephone from Los Angeles) that he had no plans to enter Parliament even if a provision existed in the constitution to allow dual citizens to become MP or President. Even the former minister Chamal Rajapaksha is in favor of leaving Basil where he is at the moment. It seems that Basi Rajapaksha is coming to terms with the current situation the Basil Rajapaksa faction, with less than 25 members, it is highly unlikely, will be able to rise in numbers and return as a formidable force, commented the Sunday times political columnist.
