Six Sri Lankan fishermen arrested by the Indian Coast Guard on the charge of carrying narcotic drugs have been refused bail.
Fishing boat Akarsha Duwa was intercepted by the Indian coast guard on March o7th 2021 and since then the six fishermen have been in remand prison.
The court accepted the fact that as the six men were foreign nationals they could abscond and ordered that the case be completed within three months.
The prosecution said that boat Akarsha Duwa had travelled through the international sea route till it was intercepted near Minicoy Island, and the routing suggested that the fishermen were part of an International drug cartel dealing with large scale drug smuggling.
