SLFP Supports Ranil ?

The Central Committee of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) met with President Ranil Wickremesinghe a short while ago and expressed their unwavering support for his victory in the forthcoming presidential election, the President Media Division said.

The announcement was officially made after a meeting held between the SLFP Central Committee and President Wickremesinghe.

In response, President Wickremesinghe expressed gratitude for the SLFP’s endorsement and emphasized that such unity is crucial for advancing the country. He noted that while other groups are focused on traditional politics, his goal is to unite all factions to propel Sri Lanka forward.

The Details of the meeting are yet to be confirmed by the SLFP which is currently organized under hevleadership of Nimal Siripala De Silva  and backed by Chandrika Kumarathunga.

MP Dayasiri Jayasekara, who claims to be the SLFP’s legitimate General Secretary categorically rejected the statement.

Taking to ‘X’, MP Jayasekara said, “Minister Nimal Siripala, who has forcibly held the SLFP, has announced the Party’s ‘support’ for President Wickremesinghe. As the General Secretary of the party recognized by court, I categorically reject this statement, as any decision needs to be taken at the Central Committee.”

“These individuals have no legal right to represent the stance of the SLFP, and so, as the legitimate Secretary of the party, I condemn these efforts to align the party with the Government,” he added.

The President’s Media Division announced today that the Central Committee of the SLFP had met with President Ranil Wickremesinghe and expressed their support for his victory in the forthcoming presidential election.

 

Meanwhile another fraction organized under the leadership of former Justice Minister Wijedasa Rajapaksaha is also to contest the presidential elections.

The SLFP  which is in disarray due to infighting still has the support of  a block vote that could seriously influence the final out come.
