The SJB has been able to put together it’s alliance and on the Thursday a memorandum of understanding was signed at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium.
Although there were no cross over surprises the biggest strength is that Sajaith Premadasa is that he has been able to keep his team together and stop cross overs to Ranil Wickramasighas camp .Sarath Fonseka who is contesting as an independent candidate has resigned from the Presidency and is most likely to make bitter attacks at sajaith Premadasa that will support Ranil Wickramasingha.
A replacement for the vacant position of Chairperson of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), which came following the resignation of former Chairperson, Parliamentarian, Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka, is unlikely to be made anytime soon, it is learnt.
When inquired about plans to fill the vacancy for the SJB Chairperson, SJB National Organiser and MP Tissa Attanayake responded that a replacement has not yet been made. “No replacement has been made thus far. We are all focused on work related to the Presidential Election, so it will take some time,” said Attanayake Veteran politician Imthiaz Bakeer Markar istipped to be appointed as President .
Hirunika in ?
The SJB national list slot has fallen vacant after Harin Fernando lost his seat after a court ruling ,there has been speculation that former parliamentarian Hirunika Premachandra who is currently convicted and on bail will be named to fill in this vacant slot. The information has not been confirmed by the SJB but has recived many angry reactions on social media.
Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna National List MP, former State Minister Dr. Sudarshanee Fernandopulle, has pledged her support for Sajith Premadasa in the upcoming presidential election.
Mean while SJB parliamentarian Rajitha Senaratahna is sitting on the fence and Thalatha Athukorala is silent .

Among those who signed the agreement with the SJB were Rauf Hakeem (Sri Lanka Muslim Congress), Mano Ganesan (Democratic People’s Front), Palani Digambaram, V.S. Radhakrishnan, G.L. Peiris (Freedom People Congress), Dullas Alahapperuma (Freedom People’s Congress), Dayasiri Jayasekara (SLFP Faction), Arjuana Ranatunga (Purawesi Handa), Ramasami Rajendran, E.L.B. Sabeel (Yaha Palanaya Sandaha Jathika Peramuna), Wijaya Sundaram Ramesh (Pragathiseeli Demala Jathika Peramuna), General Mahesh Senanayake (Pibidena Ranviru Sanvidanaya) and Devika Kodithuwakku (Government Midwives Association). SJB General Secretary Ranjith Maddumabandara signed the agreement on behalf of the party.
