Sri Lanka is to call for short-term spot tenders for coal supply to manage the looming power crisis as the previous long-term coal supply has fallen apart.
The spot tenders will be called in keeping with the International Competitive Bidding mechanisms, said Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekara.
Energy analysts point out that going into short-term spot tenders for coal supply may be costly as eventually, a long-term supplier will have to be found.
