Chaos and Panic Inside the School
Eyewitnesses described scenes of terror as gunfire erupted inside the school. Maria Pegado, a 54-year-old teacher, recalled how she and her students ran for safety after someone burst into the classroom and yelled for them to escape. She heard two gunshots as they fled. Another witness, Andreas Sundling, sheltered in a classroom while waiting to be evacuated, describing loud bangs and screams.

Sweden’s History of School Attacks
While school shootings are rare in Sweden, there have been violent incidents in the past. In 2022, a student fatally stabbed two teachers in Malmo, and in 2015, a racially motivated sword attack in Trollhattan killed three people. However, the Orebro shooting is the deadliest of them all.

Moving Forward
Authorities continue to investigate the tragedy, seeking answers about the shooter’s background and possible motives. The nation mourns as families and the community struggle to come to terms with the devastating loss.
