Many political commentators requested the statement of Sajith Premadasa on a future Sri Lankan government under Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) will not be obliged to honor International Monetary Fund funding deals.
Sajith Premadasa’s argument is that as the current government does not have the mandate to sign such an agreement as the ruling party does not have the mandate to rule.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe is in talks with the IMF to obtain $2.9 billion to bail out the economy.
