By Sri Lanka’s President Ranil Wickremesinghe who is also Finance Minister has banned the import of about three hundred items but has allowed the import of electric bikes.
Previously in 2021 electrical bikes were among the items banned as the economic crisis had set in there was a need to save foreign exchange.
President Wickremesinghe has allowed the import of electrical bikes subject to import licenses.
Biking to work is becoming popular among city-based professionals.
The average speed of an electrical bike is around 25 mph
The price of electrical bikes ranges from 150,000 to 3OOO, 000. however, currently, there is a scarcity of electric and push bikes in the local market.
