Princess Anne will lead an official visit to Sri Lanka next week at the request of the Foreign Office. The visit is intended to mark 75 years of diplomatic relations between the UK and the island. She is widely regarded as Charles’s ‘right-hand woman’, an intimate and redoubtable source of counsel, support and guidance and is involved in diplomatic missions.
Anne will be joined by her husband Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence on the trip to Sri La. This trip will represent the first overseas tour for the royal family in 2024.
Whilst in Sri Lanka, Anne will meet local communities and faith leaders in Colombo, the capital, Kandy, which sits in the centre of Sri Lanka and Jaffna, in the north. The tour will last from 10 January until 12 January. As far as key meetings are considered, the princess will sit down with Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe during her stay.
Princess Anne acts as an ambassador for the UK, representing its culture and interests overseas. She carries out up to three overseas tours each year for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in addition to her overseas visits in support of her charity work.
