The Election Commission is stunned by a three-fold increase in the estimate presented by the Police for local polls .
Compared to the 2018 local polls expenses this is a massive hike .
The estimate for the March 9th election stands at Rs 2.8 billion.
The vehicle-hiring cost which has increased from Rs 138 million to Rs 745 million. The fuel bill estimates have increased from Rs 108 million to Rs 675 million.
The elections commission has raised objections with the treasury and said that it will make payments only upon the submission of bills.
The Commission has checked the figures sent by the Police Department and spotted there was heavy overestimation.
