Vendors outside National Hospital in Colombo to be removed to make way for a car park

Vendors occupying Colombo Municipal Council lands outside the National Hospital will soon be evicted to make way for a multistoried car park which has been a need for the area for several years.

An extent of 120 perches of land belonging to the CMC has been vested with the Urban Development Authority for the project which is expected to commence soon.

Previously attempts were made to obtain the land when Dr Rajith Senaratne was the Health Minister, but during the Yahapalana government SLFP ministers blocked the move by getting the vendors to protest.

The car park has been a requirement as traffic congestion is caused regularly blocking the movement of Ambulances as well.

Most of the Ambulances coming in from the outstations bringing in accident victims are usually caught up in the traffic blocks.
