A philanthropist has donated a 180.2 perch land and bungalow in Nuwara Eliya to be used as a holiday bungalow for the Army.
Mr Don Bernard Aloysius Kurukuladithiya and Mrs Lalani Butrious Kurukuladithiya signed the papers in the presence of Army Commander General Shavendra Silva making the donation last week.
The property, Court Lodge Estate in Kandapola was the donation made.
Mr Kurukuladithiya inherited the property from his ancestors whose roots are traced to colonial times under the British according to those donors, the Army said in its website.
General Shavendra Silva told the couple that a gift of this nature would inevitably boost the morale of hardworking Army members who need rest and recreation amid demanding and strenuous duty commitments. He expressed his gratitude and deep appreciation to the donors and praised them for their exceptional gesture of thoughtfulness for a worthy cause.
