GMOA calls for a ban on cinnamon cigarettes

The Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) has called on the Health Ministry to ban all promotions of cinnamon-based cigarette that was recently launched in Sri Lanka.
However it may be a problem to ban the cinnamon cigarette while the tobacco cigarette isa commodity for legal sale.

The ‘Lion heart’ cinnamon-based cigarette was launched on Wednesday (17) by Minister of Industries Wimal Weerawansa and the act has been criticized by many. .

Issuing a statement, the GMOA pointed out that the manufacturing of this particular cigarette could further increase the demand for cigarettes.
The cigarette manufacturers have not got legal permission by all the relevant authorities and the health ministry is said to be looking in to the matter.
The Association further called on the Health Ministry to brief the public on the possible health complications that could be faced due to the use of such cigarette
