Compared to the same period of last year, prices of all the types of local rice varieties have increased in the range of 6%-26% and the highest price increase was reported for samba grade II. The increase has been reported by the Hector Kobakaduwa Research and Training Institute.

grade I in Kirulapone, Narahenpita,
Dematagoda and Kiribathgoda markets.
The lowest price of Rs.96.00/kg was
reported for raw red in the Pettah market.
The government is reportedly planning to import rice from Inda to prevent further increases.
