Namal Denies It All
Namal Rajapaksa, participating in the Salakuna television program, denied all allegations against him and stated that he would welcome a thorough investigation and legal proceedings if any charges were filed. He maintained that it would be inappropriate for him to comment on matters currently before the courts.
The only claim he acknowledged was receiving funds from Krrissh Property Developers for a rugby club. Strangely, he insisted that he had no knowledge of anyone connected to the deal.
When questioned about former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s residence—an opulent mansion on prime land—Namal claimed that it was not something they requested. He further stated that Anura Kumara Dissanayake was part of the discussions that led to granting the residence to Mahinda Rajapaksa. According to Namal, it is the government’s responsibility to provide housing for a former president.
Regarding allegations about his legal qualifications, he challenged critics to bring forth evidence proving any fraudulent acquisition of his credentials. He insisted that those making accusations should call upon the relevant individuals from abroad to testify.
Throughout the program, Namal consistently denied wrongdoing, distanced himself from individuals linked to fraudulent activities, and repeatedly challenged his accusers to bring legal charges against the Rajapaksas if they had done anything illegal. His strategy appears twofold: first, leveraging the legal principle of “innocent until proven guilty” to maintain his political standing, and second, aggressively challenging prosecutors in court to prove their case.
His presence on a television program addressing ongoing legal cases, evading tough questions, and outright denying all accusations suggests that he is preparing for a prolonged legal battle while carefully safeguarding his political ambitions—something not uncommon in Sri Lanka’s political landscape.
