Namal Rajapaksa and the Krrish Probe:A Political and Legal Dilemma

The Krrish project in Colombo, once envisioned as a beacon of modern development, has now become entangled in legal and financial controversies spanning across Sri Lanka and India. Investigations into this high-rise development have taken a sharp turn, with Indian authorities—specifically the Enforcement Directorate (ED)—launching a money laundering probe into Krrish Realtech Private Limited and its promoter, Amit Katyal. Assets linked to the project, including leasehold rights to four acres of prime Colombo land, have been provisionally attached, raising further questions about the flow of funds and project feasibility.

The investigation revealed that substantial funds collected for a real estate project near New Delhi were allegedly diverted to finance the Colombo venture through The One Transworks Square (Pvt) Ltd., previously known as Krrish Transworks Colombo Pvt. Ltd. This revelation has intensified scrutiny on the project’s financiers, including local stakeholders and political figures with suspected ties.

Among those under investigation is Namal Rajapaksa, who has been formally indicted. His alleged involvement in the project has been the subject of ongoing legal proceedings, but the silence surrounding others implicated—such as a former Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) officer , Ravi Wadiyalankara ,   who later became a director in the company—raises serious concerns. Critics argue that if the government seeks to maintain credibility and avoid accusations of political bias, it must expand the scope of its investigation beyond Rajapaksa to all involved parties.

Meanwhile, the unfinished structure of the Krrish project stands as a stark symbol of unfulfilled potential, economic loss, and the risks associated with cross-border financial dealings. As legal battles unfold, the case underscores the necessity of financial transparency and accountability in Sri Lanka’s development projects. For Namal Rajapaksa, the legal storm surrounding him continues to loom large, as the government grapples with balancing justice and political perceptions
