Lawmakers Sanath Nishantha, Milan Jayatilleke and 11 others who been accused of taking the law into their own hands and attacking peaceful protesters have been further remanded until June 08 by the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court.
Meanwhile ruling party parliamentarian Johnston Fernando and, Municipal Councilor Mahinda Kahandagama have been named as suspects over the incidents of violence on May 09th that took place at galle face just after a meeting at the Temple Trees by former Prime minister Mahinda Rajapaksha.
Wasantha Handapangoda :
Wasantha Handapangoda the President of the Sri Lanka Podujana Education Services Union was also remanded.Mrs Handapangoda was remanded till June 8th by Colombo the Fort Magistrate. The trade union activist made headlines after she was surrounded by the Galle Face protesters.
Presidential Commission:
A Presidential Commission to inquire into the incidents of arson, looting, murders, injuries caused to individuals, and damages to properties in parts of the country between March 31 and May 15, 2022 has been appointed.
Many parliamentarians who have had their houses burned down have been requesting compensation.
