Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) leader Mahinda Rajapaksa is taking the lead at the local elections as he sees the elections as a come or go Chicago situation.
He told the political correspondent of the Sunday Times,
“We must learn what the people think about us. If we have made mistakes, it is only then that we can correct them. We should not ignore their feelings and carry on as if nothing has happened. We must learn from our faults. More so, since new policy matters have emerged.”
As political commentators observe Mahinda Rajapaksha and clan have nothing much to lose even if they have a result that is a set back it will be only temporary as they are in anticipation of a stronger bounce back.
“We cannot run away from the people. I do not say there will be a defeat. If there is one, we must be prepared to accept it. What is most important for us is to learn where we went wrong. Those are essentials of democracy. We cannot run away.
said Rajapaksha to the political correspondent of the Sunday Times.
