The lotus, which is the majority in parliament, was unhappy about the cabinet portfolio changes made by President Ranil Wickremesinghe and they hinted at defeating the budget that is to be presented shortly. However, it now seems that the rift between the President and the Lotus grouping has been settled for the moment.
The lotus group has carefully weighed its options and realized that, at this point in time, there isn’t much they could do by being at loggerheads with the President, who has been their saviour. Senior parliamentarian S.B. Dissanayake, who was one of the first to hint at defeating the budget, is now very silent, and parliamentarians Sagara Kariyawasam and Namal Rajapaksa have now admitted that it is the prerogative of the President to make changes to cabinet portfolios.
