The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) will announce its presidential candidate on Wednesday, SLPP General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam said, while many guess that it will be businessman Dhamika Perera as many close to Namal Rajapaksha have indicated that he is out of the race.
Meanwhile, former diplomat Udayanga Weeratunga has said the SLPP will name businessman Dhamika Perera as its presidential candidate.
The SLPP has decided to dump President Ranil Wickremesinghe and put forward its own candidate at the Presidential polls.
However, a number of SLPP MPs including prominent figures such as Mahindananda Aluthgamage and Rohitha Abeugunawardana and Pavithra Wanniarachi have ignored the party decision and decided to back Wickremesinghe at the 21st September election.
The SLPP is not the most popular choice at the moment and Dhamika Perera will have to fight a difficult battle, there number of social media post indicating that Ranil Wickremesinghe has not only been able to divide the party but also the Rajapaksha family.
