A hill country leopard trapped in a house at Mount Vernon estate in Pathana at Thalawakele is now safely relocated.
The leopard was captured and taken to the Randenigala Veterinary Medical Unit
The wildlife conservators from the Hakgala wildlife office with Veterinary Surgeon Dr. Akalanka Pinidiya took more than six hours and were able to capture the leopard.
Villagers said that the four feet long leopard had chased a dog and feel into the house
Since 2020, the Sri Lankan leopard has been listed as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List, as the population is estimated at less than 800 mature individuals, and is probably declining.
