Leaked Letter Sends Shockwaves: Attorney General on High Alert!

In a dramatic turn of events, Attorney General Parinda Ranasinghe is scrambling to contain the fallout from a leaked confidential document that has sent shockwaves through legal and law enforcement circles. Already under immense pressure, the AG is now dealing with yet another crisis—one that raises serious concerns about the security of sensitive documents within his office.

The leaked letter in question was intended for the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), instructing them to suspend an earlier directive to discharge three suspects linked to the abduction of slain journalist Lasantha Wickrematunge’s driver. The leak has not only embarrassed the AG’s Department but has also sparked speculation about internal sabotage.

The moment the AG got wind of the breach, he wasted no time in contacting Acting Inspector General Priyantha Weerasooriya, ordering an urgent investigation. Now, a special team of officers is working around the clock, chasing down multiple leads. But with so many clues pouring in, investigators are struggling to connect the dots. Is this the work of an insider? A deliberate attempt to undermine the AG? Or just a case of sheer negligence?

Sources within the CID reveal that the letter, signed by Senior Additional Solicitor General Rohantha Abeysuriya, was personally handed over to two CID officers. But somehow, it found its way into the wrong hands, leaving authorities puzzled and desperate for answers.

The leak comes at a highly sensitive time. The AG was already in the spotlight following his controversial recommendation to discharge the suspects, a move that led to a tense meeting with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. Though he maintained that there was insufficient evidence, he left the door open to refiling charges if new evidence emerged. And just days later, CID submitted three folders containing fresh details—adding yet another layer of intrigue to this unfolding saga.

Meanwhile, whispers within legal circles suggest that the leak may not have been an accident at all. Some believe it was a calculated move to pressure the AG’s Department, while others point fingers at factions within the CID who may not be happy with how the case is being handled.

With tensions running high and all eyes on the investigation, one thing is clear—this scandal is far from over. Who leaked the document? Why? And will this probe expose deeper cracks within the justice system? Only time will tell. But for now, the Attorney General isn’t taking any chances. The hunt for the mole is on!
