Kurunagala District Prlimentarian and former President Mahinda Rajapaksha surprised many by attending the opening of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) office of parliamentarian Johnston Fernando’ in Wilgoda in Kurunegala.
The century old building was burned down during the ‘Aragalaya’ period by protesters.
Mahinda Rajapaksa arrived unannounced to the opening unannounced was very much a event that symbolised the revival of the the SLPP.
Johnston Fernando had many of his buildings burned and was removed from his ministerial portfolio subsequent to the Aragalaya. However Johnston proved that he has a following as the event was jam packed.
Mahinda Rajapaksa said that “It was from this office that I started the campaign that would win me the largest number of preferential votes in the country’s history,” Mr. Rajapaksa recalled. “I felt immense sadness when I heard of it being burned down. However, I see today that it has been rebuilt in such a way that it is even more beautiful now than before,” he told those present.
It still not known, if Mahinda Rajapaksa will contest the Kurunagala District ,in the coming elections.
