India’s leading airline, IndiGo, is expanding its international route network by adding Jaffna as a new destination. Starting September 1, 2024, IndiGo will commence direct flights between Chennai and Jaffna. This marks Jaffna as the second destination in Sri Lanka for IndiGo, following Colombo, and makes it the 34th international and 122nd overall destination in the airline’s extensive 6E network. Bookings for this new route are available from August 1, 2024.
This strategic move aims to further strengthen the robust cultural and trade ties between India and Sri Lanka, which have long been marked by cooperation in commerce, infrastructure development, and air connectivity. IndiGo’s latest route announcement to Jaffna is set to enhance accessibility across the region, catering to the increasing interest in travel to this northern Sri Lankan city.
