Inayet Akbarally, the Chairman of Akbar Brothers Group and a pioneering figure in Sri Lanka’s tea industry, has passed away.

A stalwart in the trade, Mr. Akbarally, alongside his late brothers Abbas and Abid Akbarally, co-founded Akbar Brothers, which became Sri Lanka’s largest tea exporter for over 30 years. His leadership and vision played a pivotal role in shaping the company into a diversified conglomerate with a strong global presence.

Mr. Akbarally was part of the generation that laid a strong foundation for Akbar Brothers, instilling core values of honesty and integrity in business practices. These principles, which he upheld throughout his life, continue to guide the company’s operations today.His passing marks the end of an era in Sri Lanka’s tea industry, where he was widely respected for his contributions and unwavering commitment to excellence.

The tea industry and business community mourn his loss, honoring his legacy of dedicated service and visionary leadership.

Akbar Brothers was crucial in bringing worldwide recognition to Ceylon Tea, significantly contributing to Sri Lanka’s economy and creating numerous employment opportunities for the country’s citizens.

Akbar Group, the parent company, is also involved in various industries such as property development, healthcare, and electricity generation.

In July 2022, the company expanded its operations to Oman.
