A Land Cruiser jeep suspected of being smuggled into the country was seized by the Panadura Walana Anti-vice Squad during a raid on a private vehicle yard in Dambulla.
The vehicle, valued at around Rs. 20 million, was reportedly found at the Euro Nippon private vehicle yard, which is owned by Minister of Sports Roshan Ranasinghe. Authorities believe that the vehicle was brought into the country without paying customs duty and was being used with forged documents
The Walana-Pandura Anti-Violence Squad has handed over the vehicle to the Dambulla Police for further investigation. The vehicle is expected to be produced in court.
Minister Roshan Ranasinghe’s vehicle yard director, Indika Ratnayake, has claimed that the vehicle belongs to him and that he has all the necessary legal documents to prove it. He has also accused the police of seizing the vehicle without informing him.
We have been unable to reach Minister Roshan Ranasinghe for comment.
