Sarath Fonseka who has had an uncomfortable relationship with the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) leadership has openly criticised the move to accommodate former Army Commander (Retired) General Daya Ratnayake, into the SJB ranks.
“The Samagi Jana Balawegaya was built on sacrifice, not to be tarnished by the decisions of a few,” declared Fonseka in a fiery address.
He expressed strong reservations about Rathnayake’s past and suitability for the party, calling him “shameless” and questioning his motives.
Daya Ratnayake was appointed Secretary to the Ministry of Industries and Chairman of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority by former President Gothabaya Rajapaksha.
Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) leader Sajith Premadasa welcomed former Army Commander (retired) General Daya Ratnayake and appointed him as a security adviser.
Commentators said that this is the direct and preemptive response from Sajith Premadasa after the controversial remarks made by Sarath Fonseka recently.
Sarath Fonseka has shown a leaning towards the Aragalaya group and the NPP recently.
A few months ago he called on people to revive the Aragalaya protests to save the country from self-serving politicians in power. Informed sources say that Sarath Fonseka is in talks with the NPP on a possible crossover.
