Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe has been told that there is no way to prevent the Local Government Elections from taking place, unless via constitutional or judicial action
Reportedly the members of the National Election Commission have made their opinion known to the President at a meeting summoned at the President’s office. The National Election Commission announced on January 4 that it will accept nominations from January 18 to 21 for the local council polls, which have been postponed since March amidst the prevailing economic crisis.
