The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has now ruled that the death of businessman Dinesh Schaffter was due to pressure on the neck and face. It has taken ten months to arrive at this conclusion.
Previously, SJB MP Eran Wickremaratne questioned the conduct of the Judicial Medical Officer (JMO), who had issued contradictory reports on the death of Dinesh Schaffter.
MP Wickremaratne said that the JMO had, in his first report, claimed the victim was strangled and then, in his second report, said the businessman had committed suicide. “This is absolutely ridiculous. This murder inquiry must be conducted impartially.”
The Sri Lanka Medical Council Ethics Committee has now taken action against Dr M.A. Rahul Haq, who issued contradictory reports.
“victim of a ruthless murder,”
Businessman Chandra Schaffter said that his son Dinesh was a “victim of a ruthless murder,” but no one took him seriously, and the investigations dragged on without direction for ten months. However, as pressure mounted from many corners and Schaffter’s lawyers requested another inquest, the matter was handed over to a panel of medical experts.
The murder seems much more than a mystery, and there is a need to probe the inconsistencies and contradictions that clouded the investigations.
