By “Badulla Battle: Aruna Jayasekara’s ‘Tuition’ on Security Gets Hhumorously Ridiculed ”
The heat in Parliament just turned up a notch! The strongman of the NPP, Aruna Jayasekara, who made waves during the election campaign with his tough talk on national security, is now facing some serious shade from none other than Badulla’s own firebrand MP, Chamara Sampath Dassanayake.
Jayasekara, a retired Major General turned Deputy Defence Minister, had confidently claimed during the campaign that his team was so well-versed in national security that they could even offer tuition on the subject. He boldly stated that an NPP government would wipe out the drug menace in just two months!
But Dassanayake wasn’t buying it. During Friday’s heated parliamentary debate on the Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Public Security, he fired back in classic style.
With a smirk, he brought up the country’s most wanted woman, Ishara Sewwandi, the alleged mastermind behind the assassination of underworld figure “Ganemulla Sanjeewa.” Despite an intense police manhunt, she remains on the run.
His punchline? “It’s not Jayasekara we need to go to for tuition on national security—it’s Ishara Sewwandi!”
Ouch! That one must have stung. With Jayasekara’s big talk now under scrutiny, the real question is—can he deliver on his promises, or was it all just campaign theatrics?
