Brazil Plane Crash -12 Killed

At least 12 people, including a baby, died in a plane crash in the Brazilian state of Acre, officials said on Sunday.

The aircraft, a single-engine Cessna Caravan, went down near Rio Branco airport. All 10 passengers—nine adults and one infant—along with the pilot and co-pilot, died at the scene. Authorities have not confirmed their nationalities.

The plane was traveling to Envira, a small town in the neighboring state of Amazonas. It was operated by ART Taxi Aereo, a local airline.

According to reports, the plane caught fire on impact, sparking a forest fire near Brazil’s border with Peru and Bolivia.

This is the second deadly plane crash in Brazil in less than two months. In September, 14 people, including 12 tourists and two crew members, died when a small jet crashed in Amazonas state. That aircraft went down near Barcelos in bad weather with low visibility. Authorities are investigating both crashes.
