Basil Rajapaksa, the founder of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), stated that he would prefer the parliamentary election, as obviously it will save the lotous group from a lot of trouble. Currently, the group is faced with finding a credible presidential candidate.
Speaking to News 1st, the former minister expressed his belief that holding the parliamentary election after the presidential election would not accurately reflect the people’s reality.If representation of the people is the issue the current parliament needs to be dissolved this minute, said a journalist after watching the TV show.
He emphasized that if a candidate wins the Presidential Election by even a single vote, that party would likely secure a significant majority in parliament, as was the case in 2020.
Rajapaksa argued that for a balanced parliament, the Parliamentary Election should take precedence.
Furthermore, he firmly opposed any attempts to postpone the country’s crucial national elections—the Presidential Election and the Parliamentary Election.
When questioned about the current SLPP-led Government, he expressed skepticism about whether it truly represented the SLPP. . A number of SLLP parlimentarians openly suppoer the leadership of Ranil Wickramasinha.
