The Daily Mirror has reported that President Ranil Wickremesinghe has been in contact with former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to discuss arrangements for his return to the country.
Given the current situation, former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has no other option readily available other than returning to Sri Lanka.
Reportedly the President has contacted President Gotabaya Rajapaksa as requested by the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna ( SLPP ) National Organizer Basil Rajapaksa who had recently met with the president.
The current President is facing a dilemma as on one hand he wants to distance himself from the Rajapaksha clan and on the other hand, he needs the support of the SLPP which is very much dominated by the Rajapakshas.
Basil Rajapaksa is said to have called on the president and asked for the facilitation of the early return of the former president.
Gotabhaya who is currently in Thailand will have to leave soon if his Visa is not extended.
Understandably the former President has been turned down on entry visa requests from a number of countries.
