By Canadian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Mr Eric Walsh, met Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the leader of the National People’s Power, at the JVP head office.
Mr. Patrick Pickering, Second Secretary (Political) of the Canadian High Commission in Sri Lanka and Vijitha Herath, National Executive Member for the National People’s Power, were also present. The Canadian diplomats are among a long string of diplomats who have been establishing contacts with the NPP.
The current socio-economic and political situation in Sri Lanka was discussed at length, and views were also exchanged between the two sides on the plans of the National People’s Power for building national unity, said sources close to the NPP.
Foreign tours and Diaspora contacts have become a key stragey for the NPP which helps them to get a wider exposure and fund raising opertunities. Parliamentarian Harini Amarasuriya is currently in London and a number of political discussions have been conducted. There have been request from Italy and the middle east for NPP leaders to visit them.
The NPP has the potential of gaining active contribution from the Diaspora to the Sri Lankan political sphere. Currently discussions among NPP supporters on how they could get involved in the campaigns of the up comeing elections.
