Sri Lanka’s Aviation Ministry is planning to have a flying school at Eastern Batticaloa Airport. Interests of expression have been called to train pilots.
Batticaloa airport has about 140 hectares of land and about 5 hectares are to be allocated for the flying school. The airport has very little air traffic and there are no restricted airspaces and flying training activities could continue for longer hours compared to Rathmalana. The cost of pilot training in Sri Lanka is about US$5,000 per month
